India M. - “Makinucci” is a Swiss-based tattoo artist and visual artist whose practice situates itself at the intersection of contemporary art, visual research, and embodied mark-making.
Born and raised between Rome and Ibiza, she trained in Scenography at the Institut del Teatre in Barcelona (ESAD), where early explorations in spatial and visual composition profoundly shaped her artistic sensibility. Her first real encounter with tattoo art — inspired by the work of Sabine Gaffron — revealed tattooing as a form of visual expression she could make entirely her own, merging craft with concept.
Over many years she has cultivated a dynamic and multifaceted practice that spans a wide range of tattooing styles — from fine line, graphic, watercolor, and ornamental work to mandala and blackwork compositions — not as discrete categories, but as interconnected languages within a unique unified artistic voice. Her work is recognized for its distinctive visual identity, where intentional line, pattern, and surface coalesce into a singular aesthetic that resonates across bodies, spaces, and contexts.
Makinucci’s career has been shaped by extensive travel and cross-cultural exchange. She has developed her craft through residencies, guest spots, and collaborations throughout Europe and beyond, including sustained work in Switzerland, Denmark, the United Kingdom, Canada, the United States, Macao, Hong Kong, and Ireland, building dialogue with international peers and broadening her creative horizons in diverse artistic ecosystems.
In addition to her tattoo work, she engages in painting and visual art, drawing on her scenographic roots to explore composition, narrative, and symbolic form beyond the surface of the skin. Her practice bridges the intimate, bodily act of tattooing with the expansive field of contemporary visual art, presenting a cohesive yet evolving artistic language that speaks to both personal and collective experience.
